The drive.

All Riese & Müller E-Bikes and E-Cargo Bikes are equipped with Bosch drives from the Active and Performance line. The drives impress with absolutely no need for maintenance and are among the most reliable on the market. With pedal assistance of up to 25 km/h and up to 45 km/h on our HS models, you can reach any destination effortlessly.

The heart.

With the tremendous driving force of the Bosch motors, you can conquer any terrain and any mountain. Its aesthetically pleasing integration into the crank bearing ensures plenty of floor clearance and the direct transfer of force to the back wheel via a chain or belt. The driving force is controlled using the pedals, not via an accelerator handle as on a motorbike. The harder you push on the pedals, the more the electric drive supports you. When you stop pedalling, the motor stops and you continue to roll - just like on any normal bike. The motor coasting ensures resistance-free riding even when the motor is switched off.

A pushing and starting aid fitted as standard helps your E-Bike up slopes even when you’re not in the saddle. The button used to push your bike from pure pedal power to 6 km/h (or 15 km/h on the HS models) is located on the external control unit.

These maintenance-free motors have an electronic control unit with an ultra-modern 32-bit processor and sensors for power, pedal rate and speed. Thanks to 1,000 sensor measurements per second, its coordination is superb. The higher the power, the higher the torque and therefore the faster the acceleration.

Bosch Active Cruise motor

Its harmonious pedal assistance of up to 250% makes moving a delight. The drive provides an unobtrusive push with a great deal of finesse, guaranteeing an exhilarating, light, comfortable and superbly controllable ride. You can travel longer distances and yet still arrive more relaxed and more quickly at your destination.

The Bosch Active motor is ideal for greater everyday mobility with a tail wind on demand. A trip to the shops or a Sunday bike ride can now be enjoyed with no effort whatsoever.

Bosch Performance Cruise motor

The enormous push from this powerful drive of up to 275% pedal assistance allows you to cover large distances and inclines with true sporting flair. It masters any terrain and any pace - from moderate to fast - with aplomb. The models with derailleur gear have gear shift detection technology which reduces and increases the torque at precisely the right moment. This produces a silky-smooth shifting process, reduces stress on components and therefore reduces wear.

Bosch Performance Speed motor

The Bosch Performance Speed motor on all E-Bike HS models assists you up to a speed of 45 km/h. Up to this point, it is identical to the Bosch Performance Cruise motor. For the Speed motor, you need an insurance certificate and a driving licence for small powered bikes. A driving licence for class MA (from the age of 16 upwards) or for cars includes this. Helmets are mandatory on HS models. We recommend using a Pedelec helmet that complies with the EN 1077 and EN 1078 standards.

Bosch Performance CX motor

The highest-torque Bosch drive guarantees maximum riding fun - even up hills. Its enormous performance coupled with sensitive responsiveness produce a completely new riding experience off the beaten track. The maximum torque is 75 Nm, with pedal assistance of as much as 300% - even at high speeds. With “Direct Flow”, you have a powerful push on the back wheel from speeds of just 20 rpm. Whether it be uphill or on the flat, this acceleration will inspire you.

Bike Data.

An E-Bike's control centre is the display. It is operated either directly on the display or via an external control unit. The remote control allows you to set four levels of pedal assistance. The button for the pushing aid is also located here.

Bosch Intuvia Display

The Bosch Intuvia display provides information about the battery charge level, the range, the number of kilometres travelled that day, the total number of kilometres travelled, the riding time, the current motor output, the time, the speed and the average speed. On our automatic E-Bike models, the automatic version of the display also offers an option for controlling the pedal frequency. A USB interface allows MP3 players and mobile phones to be charged while riding too.

Bosch Nyon Display

The Bosch Nyon display is operated either via the external control unit or directly via the display using two five-way joysticks. In addition to the E-Bike control with five assistance modes, it features a navigation system, a fitness trainer and various smartphone functions. Its functions can also be extended on the Bosch online portal with new apps and updates. Thanks to Bluetooth, the display notifies you of incoming messages on your smartphone. You cannot reply via the display however - safety comes first.

The navigation system uses precise, GPS-assisted route calculations. All tour-related information such as the battery charge level, terrain or pedal assistance is updated in real time. This means that you've always got your eye on your range and you can extend it by many kilometres, for example, with a little assistance.

The fitness trainer shows a summary of your personal achievements in real time. Sensors in the motor measure your pedalling frequency and pedalling force up to 1,000 times per second. Coupled with an optional chest strap, the fitness trainer can also be used for heart rate measurement and targeted health training.

Petrol in the blood. Current in the tank.

Ultra-modern Bosch lithium ion batteries with a 400 or 500 Wh energy reserve provide the power for our E-Bikes. The battery capacity of 1000 Wh is achieved by means of the DualBattery technology, which uses two batteries in parallel.

The more watt-hours the battery has, the wider its range. This also depends on numerous other factors, such as the pedal assistance level which has been set, the pace, the outside temperature, or the inclination of the route. The range computer on the display provides more detailed information. When it's stop-and-go in the city, the range is shorter than with a constant journey over a longer distance - comparable with the fuel consumption of a car. If you find while you’re on a ride that your battery's residual power is not going to be enough to complete your journey, you can reduce the degree of assistance and therefore still reach your destination comfortably.

The batteries are charged directly on the E-Bike or, once removed, at any standard 110/200 V wall socket. There is no need to run the battery down completely, because it can be charged in its partially discharged state without any "memory effect". The lifespan is 800 – 1,000 charging cycles. Thanks to the short charging times, the battery can be given a good top-up even during a lunch break, for example. For the 500 Wh battery, a complete charge takes just 4.5 hours. With the DualBattery technology, both batteries can be charged at the same time.

The Bosch range calculator.

Calculate the range of your next E-Bike tour in advance online. You can enter parameters such as the rider’s weight, motor power, battery or type of terrain. You can also influence the range independently of your E-Bike's technology. Reduced pedal assistance and more muscle power from you can increase the range significantly.
