How does the E-Bike technology from Riese & Müller work? How do I charge my battery? Why does a Birdy ride like a normal bike? We answer these and other questions in our FAQs.

  • Can I buy a Riese & Müller bike directly from the factory?

    You cannot buy your dream bike directly from the factory, because Riese & Müller only works with qualified specialist retailers. With over 350 dealers in Germany, you are well served. After all, nobody wants to buy a bike without getting specialist advice first. In our dealerships, you will find professional people who can offer information about your bike, how to look after it and how to care for it.

  • Can I buy or retrofit all Riese & Müller models with DualBattery?

    No. In the Superdelite and Supercharger models, the system is fitted as standard. In the Homage, Nevo 3, Charger and Multicharger as well as all Packster and Load models the technology is available as an optional extra including a second battery. Special cables and special software are required, which can only be installed when the bike is manufactured. This also means that the system cannot be retrofitted.

  • Can I order a Riese & Müller bike in my own preferred colour?

    No, unfortunately this is not possible. 

  • Can I replace individual parts on my E-Bike with others?

    If you have any requests for modifications, please contact your dealer.

  • Can I ride in the rain on my E-Bike?

    Yes. You can use the system in the rain without any concerns. It is protected against rain and splashes, but not against riding through rivers when the motor is submerged in water.

  • Can I ride on my E-Bike during winter?

    Yes. At temperatures down to -10°C, the system works without any problems. Only the range may be a little less in cold weather. At very low temperatures, you should charge and store the battery indoors or in the cellar, place it on the E-Bike immediately before you set off and ride with adjusted assistance. On arrival at your destination, take the battery inside the building with you and charge it again there.

  • Can I ride twice as far with DualBattery?

    Yes, you can ride twice as far. Riese & Müller uses 500 Wh and 625 Wh batteries, resulting in a total capacity of up to 1250 Wh. 

  • Can I transport my E-Bike on a bicycle carrier attached to my car?

    Yes. There are lots of different carrier systems available on the market. Before making a purchase, check with the dealer whether the carrier system is suitable for your E-Bike.

  • Do I have to drain the battery completely before I recharge it again?

    No. You do not need to drain the battery completely, because the lithium ion batteries we use do not have a memory effect. The battery can be recharged at any time, so you always have full capacity available to continue your journey. This also means no increased battery wear.

  • Do I have to swap the DualBattery batteries from time to time?

    It is not necessary to mechanically swap the batteries or to manually switch between the two batteries. The system automatically alternates between the batteries. As soon as there is a 5% difference in charge levels it switches to the other battery to ensure an even discharge.
