Sustainability Insights: Riese & Müller publishes new Sustainability Report
12.03.2026
Mühltal, Germany, 12/03/2026: Riese & Müller, the premium manufacturer of e-bikes and cargo bikes, has published ‘Sustainability Insights’, its sustainability report for the 2024/2025 business year. With a new, compact format, the report provides a concise insight into the company’s key sustainability issues, presents measurable progress, and documents projects that are driving Riese & Müller’s economic transformation – both in-house and in the bike industry.
“Sustainability Insights demonstrate that we continue to constantly develop our direction of travel – because we are changing, learning and staying agile,” explains Dr. Sandra Wolf, CEO of Riese & Müller. “This includes changing our previous Responsibility Report to a leaner, more attractive format. We want to present the key issues, results and developments even more clearly and more efficiently accessible to a wider public.”
First measurement of the carbon footprint of recycled aluminium
For the first time, Riese & Müller has recorded the emissions of bought-in bike frames in Scope 3 and thus measured the impact of recycled aluminium. In the 2024/2025 business year, around one in two frames purchased contained a percentage of recycled aluminium. The Carrie cargo bike currently contains the highest percentage of 81 percent. A total of 15 percent of emissions was saved compared to pure primary aluminium by the use of recycled aluminium in the frame.
Progress in waste prevention
The recycling rate continued to remain high in 2024/25 at over 90 percent. Continuous review of supplier packaging and targeted zero-waste projects further reduced film and paper waste in particular.
Reusable BikeBox
The reusable BikeBox is a key project, saving over 35,000 kg of cardboard over the course of the financial year. In 95 percent of all possible cases, dealers are already ordering using this system, which is currently used by over 1,000 dealers in eight European countries. A further 5,767 kg of cardboard was avoided through the use of rhinopaq reusable packaging for small components.
Regional supply chains, repair offers, and Fair Pay Leader award
Riese & Müller is already procuring some 63 percent of components from European suppliers. This reinforces regional value creation and ensures significantly shorter supply chains. The company is also promoting the durability of its products by the use of DIY Repair Kits for textiles and a proprietary Repair Unit. Moreover, 10,000 trees were planted in regional forests between 2021 and 2023, and their growth was reviewed last year. In addition, receipt of an award as a Fair Pay Leader and for company mobility management underline the company’s sustainable and responsible ethos.
Riese & Müller was awarded the 2025 German Sustainability Award for its commitment to socio-economic transformation.
