Twice the batteries. Twice the freedom.
Riese & Müller was one of the first E-Bike manufacturers to introduce Bosch DualBattery Technology and has been equipping many series with it ever since. This makes our E-Bikes and cargo bikes unbeatable when it comes to range and ascent – of course, with a consistently one-of-the-kind riding experience. Besides being able to go twice as far on long trips, you no longer have to worry about your range in your day-to-day riding either.
Two real power performers
Riese & Müller is increasing the battery capacity of its E-Bikes up to 1,250 Wh, thus effectively increasing their range. After all, DualBattery Technology enables the parallel use of two batteries. Heiko Müller, co-founder of Riese & Müller, had this to say about the technology: “In designing our bikes, it is important to us to develop the right concept for each application. For the DualBattery, we dealt intensely with the topics of range and riding dynamics.”
The battery positions
Our engineers have positioned the batteries so skilfully that the additional weight and battery position have no noticeable effect on riding behaviour. Depending on the model, we use two fully integrated Bosch PowerTube batteries, the combination of a PowerTube battery and a frame or luggage rack battery, or for our cargo bikes, two frame batteries attached to the frame and loading surface. More information can be found on the pages for each series.
How does DualBattery Technology work?
When DualBattery is used, the two batteries are discharged alternately and not simultaneously. The system automatically tracks the charge states and switches between the batteries when it detects a charge difference of five percent. This ensures that both of them are discharged evenly, which significantly increases their service life. If necessary, riders also have the option to use just one battery. In this case, it doesn’t matter which unit it is attached to. Both can be charged directly on the bike at the same time or detached and charged separately on an external charger – which is very convenient when no socket is nearby. Both batteries have the same key, which saves time searching for the right one. The same charger can be used to charge the batteries, whether mounted or removed.
What is the actual benefit?
The range increases with the use of DualBattery Technology. So day excursions of up to 170 kilometres are possible with our 25 km/h models. And even when riding fast on a 45 km/h model, DualBattery Technology lets you reach destinations within a radius of 85 kilometres without needing a break to recharge. Riding style, gradient and level of assistance affect the range. Thanks to the DualBattery, you can focus entirely on riding, without constantly worrying about the battery level. And even on short trips and in day-to-day use, the handy technology requires significantly less frequent charging cycles. And Heiko Müller points out: “Even I did not realise all the benefits of this system until I switched to an cargo bike with DualBattery. While I used to have to charge my bike every two to three days, it is now sufficient to charge it just once a week. This is a real boost in comfort, because I no longer have to worry about my range.” The DualBattery Technology is therefore the perfect solution not only for touring riders but also for everyday commuters.
